CLEVELAND NAACP HOSTS BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION  

 
On Friday, February 28, 2014 at 6:30pm, the Cleveland NAACP will host a Black History Celebration at our new offices located at 7100 Euclid Ave. Cleveland Ohio 44103. The theme of the event is Celebrating Black History in Progress with special guest Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge. 
 
The event is free and open to the public.

Voting Rights Forum @ Friendly Inn Settlement

The Cleveland NAACP Political Action Committee, in Partnership with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter, will be hosting a forum on Voting Rights on April 17, 2014 at 6:30pm.

Legal Redress Forum @ University Circle United Methodist Church

The Cleveland NAACP Criminal Justice Committee and Legal Redress Committee will host a community forum on August 11, 2014 at 6pm. The forum will be to update the community on the current criminal trial involving Cleveland police officers in the shooting deaths of Melissa Williams and Timothy Russell. The forum will also discuss the implications of proposed legislation for stop, question and frisk. The forum will take place at University Circle United Methodist Church. The church is located at 1919 E. 107 Cleveland, Ohio 44106.

Finally, the forum will provide information regarding upcoming dates and locations for NAACP quarterly trainings. The trainings will cover Civil Rights and Know Your Rights Workshops. These trainings will be useful for upcoming NAACP Court Watch initiatives as well as preparing citizens to handle encounters with police officers.

Election Protection Volunteer Training @ Cleveland NAACP Branch Office

The Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights Under Law seeks legal volunteers for Election Protection to help ensure Ohians are able to vote in the general election on November 4th.

About Election Protection:  Election Protection is the national’s largest non-partisan voter protection coalition, helping tens of thousands of voters across the country overcome obstacles to the ballot box while also collecting data to support election reform at the local and national levels.

How You Can Help:  Election Protection is recruiting attorneys, paralegals, and law students to participate in a legal field deployment in the Cleveland are on Election Day to ensure the process is running properly.  Legal field volunteers serve a reporting role by communication problems to leadership and a substantive role by responding to significant issues at the polls and providing assistance to individual voters at their polling place.

Time Commitment:  Shifts are 4-6 hours on election day (November 4, 2014).  All volunteers must complete a 2 hour training.
